The new impact of Covid-19 is the emergence of remote work and virtual meetings. The effect of the pandemic has forced people to spend more time at home than ever before. With millions of people forced to stay and work from home, new digital technologies have helped people stay connected and be productive at the same time.

Working from home will be the new normal for many of us now. Research has shown that nearly 2000 tasks in 800 odd occupations can be done remotely. This also means that 20% to 25% of the workforce in most advanced economies can work from home.

When home becomes a part of an office, people need to adapt to new surroundings. Existing residential and offices will need to be redesigned to accommodate new activities. For people buying new residential properties or renovating existing homes, there will be a need for a home office incorporated in the apartments. Not only residences but even offices will also change the layout structure.

A Singapore-based interior design firm will now relook at how they design the interiors of homes and offices and transform the living and workspace.

Office space in Home

If one does not have an extra room’s luxury, they can double the bedroom into a quiet corner to work during the daytime. A portable mounted table at the corner with required extensions and convenient electricals will ensure comfort and productivity from home without any high costs.

If there is an extra room available, then converting it into an office will be a challenge. Ensuring that the distractions from family members are cut out, selecting the right design with soundproofing needs to be implemented. Interior designs professional should ensure that apart from privacy, decor with ergonomic furniture will play a key role in enhancing creativity.

Health-conscious interior design

With the new virus having exposed many vulnerabilities, safety features will be the new norm in residential and commercial spaces. New interior design trends will emphasize air circulation and ventilation and the usage of materials, which will be easier to clean and sanitize.

Washrooms will be more automated with self-cleaning faucets. The recent trend for open office systems with shared cubicles will be redesigned into partial barriers to protect workers from airborne virus risks.

It is assumed that homes will now have a small pantry area where online shopping packages can be dropped off and sanitized before they enter the main residential space.

Interior Design

Takeaway

Working from home may take its toll on mental health. There is no doubt about that. For those who were used to traveling to and back from the office, the new social distancing will mean isolation, loneliness, and lack of office camaraderie. However, people are getting used to this new normal as people can spend time with kids and elders so there has been some positive side as well. In the coming years, interior designs will play a key role in designing any commercial space. For instance, the future office space will come with lots of natural lights, bright and cheerful colours and other add ons. Designers will be busy building an intelligent workstation to make the individuals more comfortable working alone from the confines of their homes.
